I Am Not My Hair
I Am Not My Hair But My Hair is Fabulous, acrylic on 18×20 wood panel, SOLD. The creation of this artwork was inspired by a story about a young African American gymnast who beat the odds and, in 2012, won her first gold medal and took a first place in history. Gabby Douglas is the first African American or the first of African descent of any nationality in Olympic history to become the individual all-around champion, and the first U.S. gymnast to win gold in both the individual all-around and team competitions at the same Olympics.
After her historical first wins, Gabby Douglas was trolled on the internet for having ‘bad’ hair and I painted this piece to state explicitly how one should feel about that.
